Aloha Surfers thank you for joining us for our annual parent Title 1 meeting my name is Mrs Saito and I'm the title 1 coordinate High School our agenda has 4 main items first what is Title 1 second what does Title 1 provide 3 what are the requirements of Title 1 and lastly parent involvement so what is Title 1 Title 1 is a federal program under the elementary and secondary Education Act or EA where any qualifying school will receive additional Federal funding in Hawaii any public school that has at least 47.2% of their student population that qualifies for free or reduced price meals will receive Title 1 funding at Lehigh our percentage is around 63% if you think your family may qualify for free reduced price meals please make sure to apply this must be done every year even if you've qualified in the past the purpose of Title 1 funds is to provide all children with a significant opportunity to to receive a fair Equitable and high quality education as well as to close the educational achievement gaps the funding for Title 1 is calculated each year by the amount of qualifying students These funds can be used schoolwide what kinds of things does Title 1 funds provide we use our Title 1 funds to purchase a variety of things here at Lehigh for example student devices each student in our school has access to some sort of student device whether it be a Chromebook an iPad or a Macbook laptop we also use our funding to purchase school supplies for student use in the class from things like whiteboards markers binders folders tablets pencils Etc we purchase online program access for our students programs like I ready for FL flocabulary Mystery Science Eureka math squared and digital components of our Wonders reading program we also use our funding to purchase additional student curriculum materials like our workbooks for our reading and math programs path manipulatives Etc we buy student planners for all of our students from grades 2 to 5 and finally for parent family engagement activities we can use the money to pay for our presenters and activities supplies as well as some light refreshments what are the requirements of Title 1 like any other Federal funded program there are requirements that you must fulfill in order to continue to receive your funding for Title 1 we must work to gain a better understanding of the strengths and causes of the identified needs through a document called the comprehensive needs assessment this is done annually at our school by our leadership team we also have something called an academic plan or act plan which describes how our school is going to improve our academic achievement by addressing those identified needs from the CNA this plan must be implemented and monitored by our school we also create and follow and approved Title 1 budget plan called the title 1 fiscal form or tfl F which also has to be aligned to our CNA and our academic plan and of course we provide family and engagement activities to improve student academic achievement and our school performance parent involvement Title 1 recognizes the importance of parent and family engagement in a student's academic career and so it provides specific parent funding to achieve this parents are encouraged to be involved in your child's School parents at nikai can be involved in the following ways volunteering at school our field trips or family or class events when a teacher is requesting volunteers coming to parent teacher conferences every year and of course attending any school hosted events or activities please be on the lookout for these throughout the school year communicating with your child's teacher is very important you can do this through their planner if they're in grades 2 to 5 or through their daily folder or binder or tablet if they're in grades kindergarten and 1 many teachers use the remind app to communicate with parents so if you get a request to sign up for your child's or your teacher's remind app please do so we also communicate via email and phone calls Etc okay that concludes our presentation thank you so much for listening to all this information and please don't forget to do our digital sign in thank you and enjoy the rest of your day
